Even though you'll be so full from what they give you don't want anything else make sure you get dessert because everything that they bake there and have in the cooler to take home… Take it!! I love everything from the red velvet cake to their pineapple upside down cake they also have a great carrot cake and tons of other stuff like cucumber salad etc. But it has there own special sauce on the sandwich with homemade baked bread and fresh vegetables and artichokes with red onions and melted cheese with grilled chicken. It is very quaint and the sandwiches are absolutely amazing, they have tons of drinks to choose from and the sandwiches are also fantastic I get the same one every single time I go in though I could not tell you the name of it to save my life right now. I think this place provides a more than adequate takeout but I certainly would not make a special trip to eat here again. Not a huge fan of the salads but other than that they're homemade soup is the best I've ever tasted out side of home.

There is free parking in the front of the buidling. The outside of the building is an eggplantish purple blue and there is a sign with an eggplant on it outside. We both had Boylan sodas, cream and diet black cherry, a nice change from the usual Pepsi offerings. Portions were generous and a good value for the money. I liked its zesty flavor while my companion thought it was too spicy. The kitchen sink was good if unimaginative. The eggplant was nice but overwhelmed by the red onion. Both orders were accompanied by a generous serving of pasta sandwich. My companion ordered the Kitchen Sink which was roast beef, turkey, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo on Italian bread. I ordered the eggplant special which consisted of hot breaded eggplant on a homemade Italian bread with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and mayo. Our sandwiches were brought to us by the woman at the counter. We amused ourselves by swatting the annoying flies that buzzed around us to the beat of the loud pop music. There is a picture of a lady fondling an eggplant but other than that it is utilitarian and not especially attractive. We placed our orders and took our drinks over to one of the bare tables. Beverage coolers containing a rather healthy assortmnet of juices, teas and sodas, line the side wall. Menus are reviewed and orders placed at the counter.

This is really just a deli with some tables and chairs. In my opinion, there's not a better place in town to spend my money on food.

What IS special about the Undercover Eggplant is the food and THAT is what I'm paying for. There's nothing extra special about the building or the decor. The decor, which some folks have mentioned, it's painted in eggplant colors outside (You CAN'T miss it: eggplant purple walls with bright green trim) looks like any normal deli inside. It's always good stuff though, nothing offensive. Sometimes it's blues or jazz, sometimes it's pop. Delightfully satisfying! (Honorable mention: Any of the cheesecakes!) One suggestion: If you're in a hurry and you're ordering more than just soup, call ahead so your food is ready when you get there. YUMMY! Favorite dessert: Bread pudding! Made with the bread they make at the deli, whipped cream on top. Note: The soup comes with a couple slices of the fabulous bread they make. If you're not sure what you might like, they're always willing to give you a little sample. I've only disliked two of the probably 20+ soups that I've tried. Almost any of the soups, which change daily. You HAVE to try the Creamy Garlic Eggplant pizza! (I wasn't a big eggplant fan, until I had this pizza!) It's got batter dipped eggplant atop a creamy garlic sauce and cheese, then dalloped with a little tomato pizza sauce, also made on the premises. My favorites? The Louisianna Locksmith sandwich: Thin slices of hot, batter dipped eggplant, cold thinly sliced ham, provolone cheese and all the fixings (lettuce, onion, tomato, etc.) on some of the best bread, which is baked fresh right there at the deli. The portions are huge, the prices are good, especially considering what you're getting. This deli has the BEST sandwiches, pizza, soup, salads and desserts! First and foremost, everything is quality food, very well prepared.
